BarberNV Issue 17 out now!

This year’s event marked its third year of turning the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam into a barbering paradise where everyone from apprentices to industry vets from all over the world came together to talk trade and embrace the knowledge.

It’s so laid back you can easily spend the weekend chilling with a beer on the terrace talking to your fellow barbers and still feel like it was time well spent. Of course you’d have been missing out on the likes of Mikey Henger, Leah Hayden Cassidy, and the BOMB Squad on stage so we can’t fully recommend that!

Naturally we had to focus on the Netherlands as a whole for this edition, with BarberSociety Live taking centre stage. Founder Marc Van de Hare is a third generation barber who still works alongside his 72-year old father at their Van de Hare Amsterdam Barbers shop. Those family value seem to still be strong throughout Holland, with Keune ambassador Ronald de Bont cutting on stage at BSL with his son Sjors.

As always we have all the latest news and plenty of features from closer to home including the launch of Joe Sloan and Joey Power’s new barbershop Eighty8.

On a personal note it’s my last issue as editor of BarberNV. It’s been a pleasure to meet and speak with so many of you up and down the country over the past two years and I’m sure the magazine will continue to promote barbering talent from around the world in the future

The front cover shoot was put together by our good friend Sam Wall, bravely tackling a 90s curtains look but giving it a fresh spin.
And have no fear, although our design is changing, we’re still packed full of the same original, ground-breaking content that you won’t find anywhere else – well, at least not until after we’ve published it first! That means exclusive interviews with both established stars of the barbering world and up-and-coming talent, plus interesting stories and fresh ideas for your shop. 2018 is already set to be our best year yet and as media partner for both BarberSociety Live and the International Barber Awards, we’ll be bringing you global content you literally can’t get anywhere else. While we’ve been going very international lately, with trips to Germany, the USA, Portugal, and Australia in 2017, we felt it was right to start the year closer to home. Kim Powell and Marie Rainsford are two young Irish women with bright futures, both disregarding any prehistoric opinions on female barbers to show exactly what they are capable of. It’s the dawn of a new era at BarberNV so if there’s anything you want to see more of, please let me know through any of our social media channels.
